No seat for you
It seems that my hometown newspaper (along with two other right leaning newspapers) has been asked to give up their seat on the Obama campaign airplane… and they don’t seem to be terribly happy about the situation.
Think about it, though. You are in the final days of your campaign for the presidency of the United States. You have a limited number of seats on your airplane and a lot of people who want to sit in them. So, who are you going to ask to give up their seats?
- A national newspaper or broadcast network that is favorable toward your campaign, or
- A small, regional newspaper (daily circulation 300,000) in the heart of Bushland that is more favorable toward your opponent’s campaign.
Though I am sure the rabid right wing will scream about it and refuse to see the logic behind the decision, I think most of us would go with the second option.
I do not know if space is at a premium on Johnny McCain’s or Sarah Palin’s airplane (I kind of doubt that it is), but if it is who do you think is going to be asked to relinquish their boarding passes? Will it be Fox News? Somehow I kind of doubt it.
Update: Fox News and The Wall Street Journal, both of which lean about as far to the right as you can without actually falling into the muck, still have their seats on the plane.
UPDATE 11/02/08: If it were your campaign plane, would you want people who would stoop so low as to publish crap like this riding on it with you?

I’m guessing Hannity, O’Reilly, Limbaugh won’t be filling those seats.
I just watch the coverage of this on our local news… It seems that all news reporters got the boot.
It really doesn’t matter except it’s indicative of Obama. Dissent is punished. From Florida to Philly, Joe the Plumber…
I don’t really care about this one either. I doubt anybody does other than the booted reporters. I think the Obama lawyers dispatched to Alaska and the prosecutors and cops on the “Truth Squads” in Missouri or the way he attacked Joe The Plumber are much more indicative of how Obama views free speech. He isn’t telling reporters they can’t talk, just denying them a ride on the plane. That is his prerogative.
The funny part is that you doubt seats are at a premium on McCain’s plane. Meanwhile, Obama still wishes his acceptance speech audience had remained a record for more than a week. Lol.
@Steve (and Jenn) : You know, sometimes it is difficult to tell whether you are trying to be funny or you really are as obtuse as your comments here indicate. Or perhaps there is a third option… Perhaps you just enjoy being argumentative and hateful, which seems to be all the rage among right wing Republicans these days.
Whatever the case may be, you are definitely entertaining. Keep it up.
Uh…did I miss something? When did Obama attack Joe the Plumber, or rather Samuel the not licensed to be a Plumber?
