Krugman wins
I am sure there are some right-wing gaskets being blown over this news this morning…
Columnist Paul Krugman wins Nobel economics prize
STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) – Paul Krugman, the Princeton University scholar and New York Times columnist, won the Nobel prize in economics Monday for his analysis of how economies of scale can affect trade patterns and the location of economic activity.
Krugman has been a harsh critic of the Bush administration and the Republican Party in The New York Times, where he writes a regular column and has a blog called “Conscience of a Liberal.”
He has come out forcefully against John McCain during the economic meltdown, saying the Republican candidate is “more frightening now than he was a few weeks ago” and earlier that the GOP has become “the party of stupid.”
“Krugman is not only a scientist but also an opinion maker,” economics prize committee member Tore Ellingsen said. He added that Krugman’s analyses tend to back free trade and his research gives no “support for protectionism.”
The 55-year-old American economist was the lone winner of the 10 million kronor ($1.4 million) award and the latest in a string of American researchers to be honored. It was only the second time since 2000 that a single laureate won the prize, which is typically shared by two or three researchers.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences praised Krugman for formulating a new theory to answer questions about free trade and said his theory has inspired an enormous field of research.
If there is one thing or person the righties love to hate more the The New York Times, it’s Paul Krugman. Or maybe it’s just Democrats. Or maybe it’s just anybody who doesn’t buy into their slanted view of the world. Or maybe it’s anybody who isn’t a white Protestant Christian. Or maybe it’s anybody who doesn’t speak English as their primary language. Oh, heck, let’s just say it, shall we? The righties hate everybody… except themselves. Themselves, they worship.

I’ve actually never heard any of this guys work before. I’m sure if he’s a true free marketer we’d get along though. I’ll have to look into him. He is a Nobel laureate after all.
The only question now is whether Paul Krugman will pay taxes on the Nobel prize at the low rates enabled by the Bush tax cuts he has done so much to discredit, or if he will volunteer to pay taxes at higher rates he considers more “fair.” Hmmm, I doubt he’ll write a check to Uncle Sam to make up the difference.
@vulcanhammer : I do not know. Is the Nobel Prize taxable as income? I’ll have to ask my smart brother the MBA/CPA.
