New ad 10-11-08
New television ad that will start running today in some key markets:
P.S. I just now read this on a right wing blog. No, I will not provide a link. This is the way “those people” actually think. (I know)…
I believe the markets are crashing because people are angry and afraid of the socialism that will take over our country if Obama is elected.

It just amazes me the amount of junk that comes out of the McCain campaign. On a better note, I got to see Obama live in Philly today and I wrote about it in my blog. Keep the faith!
“This is the way “those people” actually think. (I know)…” Wow, you just managed to insult the intelligence of about half of the entire country, Len. I didn’t think even you would go that far. I know you have seen some of the vile, hate-filled, unconscionable crap on moveon dot org and the huffington post – most of it not fit for even your blog. Would you like it if I linked you in with those soul-less nut-jobs? After all, you’re all on the
wrongleft side!@Matt : “soul-less nut-jobs” … You do realize that you just managed to insult the intelligence of
aboutover half of the entire country, Matt. You may feel free to link me to whomever you wish, sir. You may be surprised how far I may be willing to go to save my country from you people on the
rightwrong side. (BTW, I happen to agree with most of what the good folks at moveon.org and The Huffington Post have to say.)And hey, if you consider yourself to among “those people” to whom I referred, all I can say is… if the shoe fits. Let me clarify: Do you believe the markets are crashing because people are angry and afraid of the socialism that will take over our country if Obama is elected? If you answer that question in the affirmative, then yes, you are one of “those people.”
You referred to having read the comment on a right-wing blog, thus labeling anyone on the right as “those people” and, therefore, that all of us “believe the markets are crashing because people are angry and afraid of the socialism that will take over our country if Obama is elected.” YOU called me “one of those people”, and now you want to insult me twice with your childish “if the shoe fits” remark. Apparently you can’t have a civil conversation with someone who doesn’t subscribe to your moveon dot org mentality. I think you just answered my question, though. I guess I just exposed one of the soul-less nut-jobs I was talking about.
@Matt : Thank you for your kind and considerate comments. I always enjoy our “civil conversations.” However…
I may have answered your question, but you didn’t answer mine. I’ll ask it again. Do you believe the markets are crashing because people are angry and afraid of the socialism that will take over our country if Obama is elected?
??? I thought I answered it twice now. The whole reason I commented on this post is because you said “that’s how those people think”, meaning we (on the right) all agree with the person whose ridiculous statement you quoted. I am not that stupid or shallow, so I took offense at the fact that you lumped us all together. So, no, I do not agree with that statement. I have stated on my blog that my opinion is that Obama wants to socialize healthcare, which I think is pretty obvious, but that is a far cry from thinking socialism is going to overtake the country if he is elected.
I would like to correct an error on my part, however (yes, I make an occasional error but I admit it when I do). I meant to refer to the daily kos in my comment, not moveon. Obviously, I am not a reader of either site, but I have seen enough of kos to know that the people who post some of the garbage on that site are seriously disturbed. I don’t think moveon stoops to that level and I apologize for the mistake.
@Matt : Thank you. You would agree then that not everything written on every right-wing blog is representative of the beliefs of every member of the right wing?
(I apologize, by the way, that your comments are going into moderation. They shouldn’t be. WordPress seems to insist on putting the comments of a few people into moderation. I have tried to figure it why it is doing that and have tried to stop it from doing it, but thus far I’ve been unsuccessful. I’ve been told that it has even disappeared a few comments, which upsets me because my comment policy here is quite liberal.)
I recently wrote about Retard Republicans and I took some slack from some of my co-workers, who are Republicans, and some of my Democratic friends as well. One of them actually sent me this quote that I feel is right on.
“Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives.”~John Stuart Mill
And at times I bundle all the conservatives together in a bunch but I do know a few, very few, Republicans which I have respect for (I don’t respect their political views but as human beings).
Believe it or not, I don’t agree with everything Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity (or John McCain, especially) say either. That’s pretty much my whole point with your post. I don’t like being linked to every statement someone on the right says, just as I would hope you would not want to be linked to every statement made by those on the left. It doesn’t mean that we are unfaithful to our respective parties, just that we don’t have to agree with everything everyone in our party has to say. I like to think of it as having a mind of my own, and not letting myself be led by the nose with respect to what I should believe (not saying that you are either, just making a point).
Followers of the current neo-con pseudoreligious right wing really don’t yet understand that their leaders have been aiming to privatize profit and socialize loss in as many sectors as possible for a good many years now. It’s a great game for those at the top…
@Matt : Wait a minute. Are you telling me that if I were to refer to “you and your kind” (your words, by the way, from a comment on this blog not too long ago), you would be upset? Or if I were to suggest that the only reason you support the candidate you do is because you are “a member of his cult” (also your words), you would not appreciate that? Interesting.
Perhaps you should revisit the definition of the word cult:
cult /k?lt/ Pronunciation Key – Show Spelled Pronunciation[kuhlt] Pronunciation Key – Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun
1. a particular system of religious worship, esp. with reference to its rites and ceremonies.
2. an instance of great veneration of a person, ideal, or thing, esp. as manifested by a body of admirers: the physical fitness cult.
3. the object of such devotion.
4. a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc.
5. Sociology. a group having a sacred ideology and a set of rites centering around their sacred symbols.
6. a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader.
7. the members of such a religion or sect.
8. any system for treating human sickness that originated by a person usually claiming to have sole insight into the nature of disease, and that employs methods regarded as unorthodox or unscientific.
Interestingly, here is the definition for “esoteric”, from your own blog’s web address, esoterically.net:
es·o·ter·ic /??s??t?r?k/ Pronunciation Key – Show Spelled Pronunciation[es-uh-ter-ik] Pronunciation Key – Show IPA Pronunciation

4. (of a philosophical doctrine or the like) intended to be revealed only to the initiates of a group: the esoteric doctrines of Pythagoras.
[Origin: 1645–55; < Gk es?terikós inner, equiv. to ester(os) inner + -ikos -ic]
—Related forms
es·o·ter·i·cal·ly, adverb
—Synonyms 1. abstruse, arcane, cryptic, enigmatic.
You seem to regard yourself as belonging to a special group of enlightened individuals who hold a certain knowledge that none of us poor common folk are smart enough to understand. So, if you put yourself in a box, disassociating yourself from the rest of the world, don’t get mad at me for defending my own positions.
@Matt :
Wow. Thanks! You’re finally beginning to get it.
Oh, Matt. How could I possibly be mad at you? From my exalted position, it would be like being mad at an insect for being an insect.
You’re fun. I hope you continue dropping by. By the way… the invitation to our victory party on the night of November 4 still stands.
P.S. Type in http://www.estorically.net without the /weblog on the end. See what you get. Neat, huh? That’s actually been there since 2002 when I first purchased this site.
“You may be surprised how far I may be willing to go to save my country from you people on the right wrong side.”
Really Len? How far is that?
Your support of far-left hate sites tells me everything I need to know. I guess it’s not fair for me to try to debate someone who lacks the moral fiber to distance himself from people who want to kill their political enemies because they disagree with them, and who would actually make fun of a three month old child with Down Syndrome. Watch out for that old bitch, karma; she bites hard!
@Jenn : Not quite as far as some of the hate mongers on the right, Jenn. I’m not willing to kill or bomb the candidates of the opposing party. I do love my country, though, and will work to protect her from the right wing of the Republican party.
@Matt : Who has been making fun of a three month old child with Down Syndrome? Could you provide me with some links please? I’d be interested in seeing who is doing that.
If I were you, I don’t think I’d be talking about moral fiber or people wanting to kill their political enemies because they disagree with them. Been watching the news or reading any newspapers lately? I know… it’s all lies because it’s the liberal media. Whatever.
Please, as long as you are supporting the Republican party, do not dare come here and lecture me about hate. I mean it. That particular boat just isn’t going to float around here, my friend.
Now, unless you have something nice to say or can in some way back up the hate you have been spewing, I’m done with you. I am. I do not associate with hateful people in real life and I see no reason to do so on my blog.
Keep digging, Matt.
I am a firm believer in open discussions but, Yikes! It’s a good thing Matt hasn’t discovered Politi-Gal over at potligal1.blogspot.com. Her spoof of McCain as the Penguin is absolutely hysterical! But parodies do not necessarily equal hate. And as far as Matt goes, he obviously can’t “debate” you on the issues so he has to attack your integrity — which is exactly what the McCain campaign was doing to Obama. If you don’t like being lumped into a group Matt, stop acting like your part of that group.
(BTW, I happen to agree with most of what the good folks at moveon.org and The Huffington Post have to say.)
Your lack of moral fiber is outdone only by your complete denial of the facts! Have YOU watched the news or read a paper lately? You don’t need me to direct you to any sites that spew the filth I was talking about because you already said you agree with a couple of them. And, I notice the Daily Kos is listed on your side bar under “Americans” (the Kos should offend every American, not just conservatives) yet you have a separate category for conservatives. Aren’t conservatives American in your world?
Perhaps the saddest part of this whole dialogue is that I tried to engage you in intelligent debate when you decided (as usual) to lump all conservatives together in a a condescending way and then you have the gall to say I am the one spreading hate? I guess you’re not interested in the opinions of anyone who doesn’t completely agree with you. Next time you disparage someone the way you have disparaged me I suggest you take a long, hard look in the mirror, friend.
@Preston – If you want to try and inject yourself into a discussion that doesn’t concern you at least read ALL the previous posts first, lest you show your true ignorance. The whole discussion was over the fact that I didn’t agree with the following statement, “I believe the markets are crashing because people are angry and afraid of the socialism that will take over our country if Obama is elected.”, and Len claimed that all right-wingers think the same way so we must all agree with that statement. And, somehow, after I refuted the statement, I am accused of spreading hate. Wow, you two really are living in a dream world.
Wow Matt, do you really think that condescending statements make you superior or something? I read ALL of the comments which is why I made the comment about being “lumped into one group.” But where do you get off complaining that I “inject” myself into a conversation that doesn’t concern me. You truly show your ignorance with that statement. This is a public blog. It’s open to EVERYONE. These aren’t private emails for your and Len’s eyes only. And I get that you don’t like to be “lumped” into a single group and I agree with you. I don’t like it when people do that to me. But I won’t resort to
Republican tacticsname calling like you do. I think your comments speak volumes about your character. You don’t need any help from me.“Wow Matt, do you really think that condescending statements make you superior or something?” Oh, no, that’s Len.
“From my exalted position, it would be like being mad at an insect for being an insect.” See, those are his own words.
But, since you claim to have read all the comments before you decided to insult me – “And as far as Matt goes, he obviously can’t “debate” you on the issues so he has to attack your integrity — which is exactly what the McCain campaign was doing to Obama. If you don’t like being lumped into a group Matt, stop acting like your part of that group.” – then surely you know that I was the one who took the high road and called the remark he quoted from the right-wing blog what it really was – ridiculous – and told him I didn’t agree with it. If you don’t like being lumped into one group like you said then I would think you would understand my point, but you chose to attack me instead. Speaks to your own character – I believe the word is hypocrite. I guess it serves me right for trying to find common ground with those who truly think they are above the rest of us.
By the way, if I am so ignorant why did you give me such a nice compliment on your blog in your most recent post “You’re appreciated! If you blog it he will come”? A review of her blog by Matt on Entrecard describes her blog much better than I could: “Lilly has an uncanny ability to make everyday events in her life into very funny and entertaining stories for her readers. Yet, she shows great insight and perspective on important issues that affect us all. She has several ‘series’ which she posts to on a regular basis and I highly recommend them all.”
Seems to me if my character was so bad you wouldn’t be praising me, would you?
I had no intentions of directly insulting you but you seem determined to insult me. And as far as your critique of Lilly’s blog, what does that have to do with the discussion at hand? I didn’t know you were THAT Matt but I stand behind your assessment of Lilly’s blog. You hit the mark completely. But we’re not talking about Lilly’s blog, are we now? I never said you were incapable of a cognizant, well-thought out opinon, now did I? Just because I agree with you in one area doesn’t mean I agree with you on everything. Talk about ignorance. You are determined to attack so I think I will be the bigger participant and end it. I agree with you. It’s wrong to lump people into one big group. You can support the Rebublicans and still not agree with all they say. I get it. You are your own individual and wish to be defined as such and not categorized as just one of the crowd. You win. Do you feel better now?
@Matt : Please read the comments policy that is published clearly for all to see directly beneath the comment entry form. It says:
You have your own blog on which you are free to attack or impugn the character of others. Please use it. Further personal attacks in the comment section of this blog will be removed. This has gone on long enough. It’s over.
