The Cold War

Posted by Len on Sunday, September 7th, 2008 at 7:52 pm CT in Humor, Politics, Republicans

One question has been going through mind almost all day long… Didn’t we fight (and win) a Cold War against Communism? I seem to recall that at some time in my youth we did. Or was I just dreaming?

Now I am sure that some smart aleck is going to come along and tell me that what happened today does not meet the definition of Communism. Okay. Strictly speaking, perhaps it doesn’t. It sure does smack of Socialism, though. It’s kind of ironic that one of the big lies the right likes to spread about Barack Obama is that he will single-handedly convert our society here in the United States from Capitalism to Socialism and here we have a Republican administration taking a giant step in that direction. Aren’t Republicans always saying that we should just let the market work itself out? Do they not believe in “every man for himself” any more? What’s the deal here?

Alright, we need to lighten the mood a little around here. Did you know that Senator Obama made an appearance at the Republican National Convention Slumber Party last week? It seems that he did…

(I don’t believe I have laughed quite as heartily since I saw Triumph the Insult Comic Dog at the Republican National Convention Slumber Party.)

P.S. How about those Cowboys?

P.P.S. They’re kidding, right?

Great articles and I passed the links on to all of my extreme left wing Democratic friends!

I saw this one online. It was hilarious. The original is better though.

AAAarrrggghhhh…and that’s why I’m no longer a Republican! They’ve totally gone against their conservative values. I totally agree that we should let the free-market system work itself out. But – I do believe that Obama actually agreed (somewhate)…didn’t he say that if these were government controlled entities the government should bail them out..but if they were private entities – let the market work it out? If these are government entities – why the hell are those CEO’s making millions? I thought government employees were not allowed to make more than the President? Since they are making multi-millions – I do indeed believe these are private organizations – and – we should let them fail!!!

I don’t want my hard earned tax dollars going to bail out private organizations because they were too stupid to make sound business decisions. Freakin’ idiots!

    1. Yes this is socialism/communism when the government does something this idiotic, regardless of party.

    2. Go Cowboys!

    3. I have a feeling, as much as we disagree on politics, we completely agree on fashion…that is assuming you think those models all look like hobos from the 1920s…:)

Please, stop defending capitalism and wage slavery you dunce! No one won a war against socialism! Stalinism fell. The distorted system in Russia fell. The USSR fell of its own weight. Its existence was actually prolonged by the actions of the capitalist powers, particularly the US empire. Stop it. Stop the nonsense. Stop defending capitalism. Capitalism leaves an almost uncountable pile of corpses in its wake. It leaves unheard of ecological devastation. Its a horrific system that encloses the commons and forces human beings to rent or sell themselves. Please just stop!

The oldest trick in the book is to instill terror in the hearts of the voters just to get elected. The Republicans will stoop so low just to get them back in the Whitehouse. As for the dynamic dodo’s, they are diverting the campaign to that of personalities than of issues. It only shows they lack substance. If they should win in November, voters should not regret as they deserve the leaders they elect. I just hope that the electorate is more intelligent than what the Republicans want to believe.

@Bo. Wow. I think this is the first time I’ve ever heard someone seriously try to defend socialism. And I agree that theorectically socialism sounds good. We all work together and try to solve an end. But that isn’t how people work. People naturally attempt to have the most for themselves(and their families). It can/will never be equal. If you look at the natural world which capitalism is supposedly destroying, you would see that it too runs on free markets. Not markets of dollars or pounds, but markets of food and shelter. Those wolves who do catch prey do not just give it to those who those who did not. They share with themselves, their families, and the wolves that helped them catch prey. This is the flaw of socialism, it rewards those who do not contribute while punishing those who do. And also remember that capitalism does not exclude cooperation. In the above example the wolves work together to get food. Not one wolf works and then the other wolves take it away from him. And it is a natural extension of the environment, not its destroyer.

Bailing out these banks is hardly socialism. It’s just another drastic measure to try and make up for the disastrous policies of the past few years. “Less government” also means less people watching big business as it writes its own rules. Remember Enron? Letting the banks go to the wall would have caused an almost complete collapse, as far as I can see. This is maths, not ideology.

I disagree with you here Michael. The bail outs are most definitely socialist. What’s more, now every major industry knows that if they fail they will be bailed out. We’ve opened a Pandora’s box here.
