Four years ago today, on May 1, 2003, George W. Bush stood aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln and, beneath a huge banner that read “Mission Accomplished”, declared:
Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed.
Since that date, over 3,000 United States soldiers and untold thousands of Iraqis have died in that country.
Mission accomplished, indeed.

This week, Mr. Bush will veto the bill providing funding to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Many words may be used to describe George W. Bush, but patriot is not among them.
