Not for children

While following some links a few moments ago, I was directed to one of those right-wing hate websites. I’ll not provide a link (you can look it up if you want), but here is the left side of their banner:

Here is the right side of their banner:

It appears that the truth (at least the truth as this particular website chooses to portray the truth) is not suitable for children.

How weird is that?

This “Boondocks” cartoon was first published on November 22, 2001. It fits as well today as it did five years ago…

Over-reaction?

I thought this kind of thing went out after we got Bonnie and Clyde…

Police fire 50 rounds, kill groom on day of wedding

NEW YORK (AP) — Police fired 50 rounds Saturday at a car of unarmed men leaving a bachelor party at a strip club, killing the groom on his wedding day in a shooting that drew a furious outcry from family members and community leaders.

The spray of bullets hit the car 21 times, after the vehicle rammed into an undercover officer and then an unmarked NYPD minivan twice, police said. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly would not say if the collisions were what prompted police to open fire.

It was too early to say whether the shooting was justified, Kelly said.

Police thought one of the men in the car might have had a gun. But armed with a search warrant, police found no weapons.

Guess not.

Iraqi Civil War

Iraq Toll Rises; Shiite Militia Retaliates

BAGHDAD, Iraq, Nov. 24 — Defying a government-imposed curfew, Shiite militiamen stormed Sunni mosques in central Iraq today, shooting guards and burning down buildings in apparent retaliation for a series of devastating car bombs that killed hundreds of people the previous day in a Shiite slum, residents and police officials said.

As the death toll from those bombings rose above 200, gunmen drove through several neighborhoods in Baghdad and the nearby provincial capital of Baquba, taking aim at mosques with automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenades on the Muslim holy day, when many Iraqis go to mosques to pray.

The wreaking of vengeance unfolded while a powerful parliamentary bloc loyal to firebrand Shiite cleric Moktada al-Sadr threatened to boycott the government if Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki attends a meeting with President Bush scheduled for Wednesday in Jordan. The legislators said the American presence was the root cause of the spiraling violence in Iraq.

But it was Mr. Sadr’s militia, the Mahdi Army, that Sunni residents blamed for the attacks today. From morning until afternoon, at least four mosques were attacked in a single mixed neighborhood in the capital. Two were completely destroyed, and at least five Sunnis were killed and 10 wounded, an Interior Ministry official said. Iraqi security forces were absent, unwilling or unable to stop the gunmen.

How anybody can claim this is anything other than a civil war is beyond me.

Of course, as Howie so eloquently and convincingly proves, it’s all the Democrats’ fault… because, like, you know, they started this war and have been running it for the past three and a half years and all that, you know.

Posted by Len on Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006 at 12:39 pm CT in General

On November 22, 1963, when he was hardly past his first thousand days in office, John Fitzgerald Kennedy was killed by an assassin’s bullets as his motorcade wound through Dallas, Texas. Kennedy was the youngest man elected President; he was the youngest to die.

Has it really been 43 years? Seems like yesterday. Do you remember where you were and what you were doing when you heard the news? Were you even alive?

Education Secretary loses

Posted by Len on Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006 at 12:27 pm CT in Politics

Education Secretary Margaret Spellings lost at “Celebrity Jeopardy.” How embarrassed is she? That’s not the best part, though. She lost to Lenny from “Laverne & Shirley.”

Ms. Spellings even insists that she studied hard and read lots of book in preparation for her appearance on the famous quiz show.

I don’t know if you’ve ever watched “Celebrity Jeopardy.” I have a few times. I usually get bored with it rather quickly. They really dumb down the questions for the celebrities. I dare say that most fifth graders today would know the answers to most of them.

Like everyone in the Bush administration, Ms. Spellings had a couple of excuses ready to explain her less than stellar performance:

1) Michael McKean (the actor who played Lenny) had an edge because he appeared on the show previously, and
2) She had trouble with her button.

Here’s the AP story: “Spellings Finishes 2nd on ‘Jeopardy’.”

Career over

Posted by Len on Monday, November 20th, 2006 at 7:12 pm CT in General

I am sure that whatever career Michael Richards may have had is now over.

I stopped watching Seinfeld as soon as I heard that the actors were being paid a million dollars per episode. I don’t care who you are… you are not worth that much money. Besides, the show wasn’t all that great to begin with.

Jerry Seinfeld is on Letterman tonight. I wonder if this will come up.

Update:

Richards Apologizes for Racial Slurs

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Michael Richards said Monday he spewed racial epithets during a stand-up comedy routine because he lost his cool while being heckled and not because he’s a bigot. “For me to be at a comedy club and flip out and say this crap, I’m deeply, deeply sorry,” the former “Seinfeld” co-star said during a satellite appearance for David Letterman’s “Late Show.”

“I’m not a racist. That’s what’s so insane about this,” Richards said, his tone becoming angry and frustrated as he defended himself. A clip from the show played on CBS before “Late Show” aired Monday night.

Richards described himself as going into “a rage” over the two audience members who interrupted his act Friday at the Laugh Factory in West Hollywood. Richards responded to the black hecklers with repeated use of the “n word” and profanities.

Jerry Seinfeld, who had issued a statement saying he was “sick over this horrible, horrible mistake” and calling it offensive, was scheduled as a Letterman guest Monday. He encouraged Richards to make a satellite appearance to talk about the incident, a CBS publicist said.

Update #2: The apology…

Was it enough?

Down but not out

Posted by Len on Monday, November 20th, 2006 at 3:47 pm CT in Politics

I dug this old cartoon out of the archives. It’s from July of 2005. It was wishful thinking back then and it appears to be wishful thinking now.

I think Cheney will go before Rove does, and Cheney isn’t going anywhere.

A Tough Road Ahead for the President’s Closest Adviser

WASHINGTON, Nov. 18 — Karl Rove, the top White House political strategist, is coming off the worst election defeat of his career to face a daunting task: saving the president’s agenda with a Congress not only controlled by Democrats, but also filled with Republican members resentful of the way he and the White House conducted the losing campaign.

White House officials say President Bush has every intention of keeping Mr. Rove on through the rest of his term. And Mr. Rove’s associates say he intends to stay, with the goal of at least salvaging Mr. Bush’s legacy and, in the process, his own.

But serious questions remain about how much influence Mr. Rove can wield and how high a profile he can assume in Washington after being so closely identified with this year’s Republican losses, not to mention six years of often brutal attacks on the same Democrats in line to control Congress for the remainder of Mr. Bush’s presidency.

Karl will not enjoy the next two years as much as he did the last six, but he’s keeping his office just down the hall from the Oval.

As for salvaging Mr. Bush’s legacy… I don’t know that “Worst President Ever” is a legacy really worth salvaging.

Don’t bother

I have just two words for John Kerry:

Don’t bother.
