Lies and Liars
There is a right-wing weblog that I frequently read for its comedic value. I cannot think of any other reason anybody would ever read this particular weblog. Today, the author of that weblog addresses Bill Frist’s plan to change the filibuster rule in the Senate so George Bush can get his extremist judges confirmed…
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, said in a statement opening the 109th Congress that he hopes he won’t have [to] change procedural rules regarding filibusters?which Senate Democrats have been abusing in order to deny qualified nominees an up-or-down vote for confirmation…
Bottom line: If Democrats cut the partisan obstruction then there won’t be a need for a procedural change. Frist doesn’t appear to want to have to change the rules, but he seems willing to to do if Democrats continue to act like children.
See what I mean by comedic value?
If this person had done just a little research, he would have discovered that Bill Frist participated in a filibuster against one of President Clinton’s judicial nominees in 2000.
In 1996 Clinton nominated Judge Richard Paez to the 9th Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals. Conservatives in Congress held up Paez’s nomination for more than four years, culminating in an attempted filibuster on March 8, 2000. Bill Frist was among those who voted to filibuster Paez.
Eschaton has the details.
Somehow the filibuster rule is fine when Republicans want to use it, but it suddently becomes an evil thing when Democrats employ it.
Just one more example of right-wing hypocrisy

Who needs enemies?
George W. Bush on April 25, 2002:
I was honored to welcome Crown Prince Abdallah to my ranch, a place that is very special for me, and a place where I welcome special guests to our country. The Crown Prince and I had a very cordial meeting that confirmed the strong relationship between Saudi Arabia and the United States of America.

Let’s recap, shall we? Osama bin Laden is from Saudi Arabia. The hijackers on September 11, 2001 were from Saudi Arabia, and now it seems that the suicide bomber in the mess tent in Mosul on December 21 was also from Saudi Arabia.
With friends like these, who needs enemies?
