Whoever takes over after George W. Bush in January, 2005 (Howard Dean, I hope) is going to have a real mess to clean up.
What Is the War Going to Cost Us?
What’s the cost of the war in Iraq? In dollars it will be at least $286 billion. In terms of our economy and the welfare of our citizens it will feed the recession and will have prolonged negative impacts that all of us will feel. The Bush administration made a choice between “guns and butter;” the military got the guns and, as a result, the average citizen will have to give up “butter” for years to come.
It will not be an easy task.

Bridget Gibson has written an outstanding article for the Online Journal entitled “Gagged by the flag.” I hope you’ll read it.
I am going to quote a few paragraphs here because I think they are worth repeating.
The First Amendment to the Constitution is as follows:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
The Constitution does not say anything about what may be said at any particular moment—whether at peace or at war. The Constitution does not say anything about supporting or silencing anyone who opposes a particular political party’s member—whether they hold a majority or a branch of government. Any person in this country has the right to disagree with the policies and politics of another person without censure. Those that attempt to censor thoughts are bullies. And to those bullies I say, “Get over it!”
The USA PATRIOT Act is unconstitutional on its face because it attempts to make laws that do not respect the the First Amendment of the Constitution of these United States.
If our United States Supreme Court does not declare this act to be unconstitutional, then the members of that court are in direct violation of our Constitution and should be removed.
Any member of Congress that does not stand against this act should be removed for failure to uphold the oath taken which states that he/she will protect our Constitution. If they do not do so, then they have failed to protect our country and should be removed from office.
If the president of the United States does not stand against this act, he to has failed to protect the Constitution and should be removed from office.
I couldn’t agree more.
