A Chill Wind
If you have not yet done so, you need to read the transcript of the speech given by actor Tim Robbins to the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., on April 15, 2003, ‘A Chill Wind is Blowing in This Nation…’.
I have received a few e-mails in response to a few of my postings here. One person stated he was going to contact my ISP and have my site taken down; another went so far as to threaten to “hunt me down.” Several have called me unpatriotic and worse. None have used a valid name or return e-mail address. All have been viewed by myself as blatantly ridiculous.
Let’s get one thing straight, shall we? This is the United States of America, not Cuba. George W. Bush is not Fidel Castro.
In 1918, when my grandfather was just 12 years old, Theodore Roosevelt wrote:
“The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else.”
I believe that Bush & Co. are wrong in what they are doing to this country. George W. Bush is not qualified to be, and should not be, the president of this country. If you don’t believe that I have the right to say that, then it is you who I accuse of being unpatriotic.

I cannot believe someone threatened to ask your isp to shut you down. Unbelievable!
I haven’t gotten any threats…
I want threats!!! hehe of course, I don’t have any readers, so that might be it. Gotta ask, how have you gotten so many regulars that actually post comments?
Jealousy is such a bad trait. heh.
You received threats?! Oh. My. God. One more reason for me to be grateful for being on *this* side of the border. But that doesn’t make me feel any better for people like you who have to put up with this kind of crap.
That Roosevelt quote is so great! Thanks for posting that. If only more people understood the true gravity of it. It seems so obvious to me.
Contact your ISP to shut you down? Quite right, too. Your fellow Americans went to fight in Iraq for your freedoms and rghts. How dare you criticise your nation!
Bloody good thing I know you’re joking, Ms. Gert!
The troops didn’t go to Iraq to fight for my freedom and rights. They were won long ago, though Bush & Co. are now trying to take many of them away.
