Why get out of bed?

Posted by Len on Saturday, October 19th, 2002 at 11:53 am CT in General

I kind of like this look. I don’t think I’ll be making any [major] changes in it any time soon. That may be somewhat of a shocker, since I really love playing with this page and moving things around.

Getting up in the morning has become a challenge of late. What do I have to get up for? Another eleven hours doing something I don’t like with people I really don’t care for? Yeah, that’s it. That’ll get me up in the morning.

Factor in my usual problem of not sleeping at night (I think I finally drifted off at about 5:00 this morning) and you have my exciting life in a nutshell.

Giorgio goes back to the vet on Tuesday. I think they are going to have to adjust his meds. He’s back to just laying around again; doesn’t seem to have much energy. When we tested his pee yesterday, it was off the chart.

It has been raining here for most of the past 24 hours. I’ve been loving it.

Well…. off to the mines I guess. Have a wonderday day!

Just ask!

Posted by Len on Friday, October 18th, 2002 at 1:24 am CT in General

Tonight (last night?) at work I was outside taking a smoke break and got to talking with a manager from another department. She had all kinds of questions.

Am I married? No. Do I live alone? No, I have a roommate. A female roommate? No. Hmmmm….

Hey, if you want to know something, just ask! I would have told her that I have had the same “roommate” for going on 27 years now, but that “Hmmmm” and the look that accompanied it did not make me feel like continuing the conversation. I excused myself and returned to work.

Half way there

Posted by Len on Friday, October 18th, 2002 at 1:05 am CT in General

There is one advantage to working 11 hour days (noon to 11 p.m.)… after working just two days, the week is half over. Just two more days, then another three days off. This is good, though I am exhausted.

Giorgio has only been on his diet/insulin thing for one day, but already he seems to feel better. He used to just lay around and sleep most of the time. He seems much more alert now. He and Sunshine were even chasing each other around the house tonight. That has not happened in a while.

He gets to go spend the day at the vet next Tuesday. They’ll do some testing to see if his medicine or diet need to be adjusted. So far, though, I think we all feel a little better. I know Sunshine will be happy to get her playmate back.

Giorgio’s regimen

Posted by Len on Thursday, October 17th, 2002 at 12:14 am CT in General

I once had a roommate in college who was diabetic. Though he had to watch his diet and give himself a daily injection of insulin, I was never directly involved in his care. He usually did the shot thing while I was out of the room.

It seems that I am about to become directly involved. Our boy cat, Giorgio, was just diagnosed with diabetes. He is to receive 3/4 cup of this special food twice daily, at the same times each day, followed immediately by an insulin injection. We also have to test his glucose level every day, which is accomplished by dipping this little strip into a sample of his urine.

Dang good thing we love this cat, huh?

Prime time hotness

Posted by Len on Monday, October 14th, 2002 at 10:51 pm CT in General

Watched Seventh Heaven on the WB tonight. Your basic non-reality television. Too many hot guys in one family. This appears to be a developing theme on WB prime time shows. Not that I am complaining, mind you.

Only one day off remaining before I have to return to work. Already the depression is beginning to settle in. I don’t want to think about it.

Wuss

No we did not go to the state fair today. The s/o planted himself in front of the television on the sofa under a blanket in the living room and refused to budge. “It’s too cold.”

Wuss.

Day 2 of 5

Posted by Len on Saturday, October 12th, 2002 at 11:23 pm CT in General

Day two of my five day mini-vacation, and again I did practically nothing. We did watch the Texas-Oklahoma football game, which Oklahoma won, which is probably a good thing, because heaven knows that state needs something to brag about.

The cats went to the vet the other day. Sunshine got her teeth cleaned and we found out Giorgio is diabetic. We are going to have to start giving him daily insulin shots. He’s going to love that. I don’t imagine it will be a lot of fun for us, either. They’re our kids, though, and we’ll do whatever it takes.

We are planning on going to the state fair tomorrow. The weather should be good for it. A cold front supposedly blew through here a couple of hours ago, though the only noticeable change so far is an increase in winds from the north. The high temperature tomorrow is supposed to only be about 62F. Perfect fair weather!

All I seem to want to do lately is sleep. It’s like all the energy has been zapped right out of me. I need to force myself to get out and do something. A day at the fair will be good.

Corporate logic

Posted by Len on Wednesday, October 9th, 2002 at 11:32 pm CT in General

My work schedule is changing next week. I will be scheduled to work 10 hours per day, Wednesday through Saturday, giving me Sunday, Monday and Tuesday off. The work week starts on Sunday, so my new schedule will become effective this coming Sunday. Since my days off on my current schedule are Friday and Saturday, I will have Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday off this coming weekend. That is, of course, providing I am not called in to work on any of those days. Right now, I consider that a remote possibility since I have every intention of turning off my pager and screening all telephone calls.

Why am I telling you all this? Because I wanted to illustrate the logic under which this company operates. Today, my manager says to me “Since you will have five days off this week, I guess that makes us even for you working last Saturday.”

Let’s see… I worked 48 hours last week, will work 40 hours this week and 40 hours next week, so yeah, I guess we’re even. Huh??

Amazing, these people for whom I work. Simply amazing.

Cool & Rainy

Posted by Len on Tuesday, October 8th, 2002 at 10:50 am CT in General

Cool and rainy today, just the way I like it. Too bad I have to ruin the day by going to work.

They have hired two new supervisors. Poor souls do not know what they are in for. I would have told them, but I was not given the opportunity to talk to them before they accepted their positions.

They also hired another manager, though God only knows why. The managers we currently have do not do anything.

This company is so screwed.

Not a team player

Posted by Len on Sunday, October 6th, 2002 at 10:35 am CT in General

I wanted to write something in here yesterday, but I thought it best that I wait until my blood pressure lowered a bit.

Somehow, I did manage to make it into the office at 7:00 yesterday morning. The plan was that I would leave as soon as the evening supervisor arrived. Just as she was arriving at 1:00 in the afternoon, my manager had the balls to call and ask me to stay until 11:00 p.m. Keep in mind that this is all occurring on a day that I was supposed to be scheduled off, and for which I was receiving no compensation whatsoever.

Hell, no! Oops, did I say that outloud? What I think I said was “No, thank you.” I left. I am sure my review will reflect that I am “uncooperative” and “not a team player.” But guess what? I don’t really care.

I came home and applied a blue them to this page, then turned on the Notre Dame/Stanford football game and slept through most of it. I think Notre Dame won.
