First Door on the Left

I think I’m losing it. I know the doctor said my corticosteroid injections would be two weeks apart. Yet, when I returned home from work this evening there was a message waiting on my answering machine confirming my appointment for 8:00 tomorrow morning. It’s only been one week since my first injection. So I dug through all the papers and appointment cards from the doctor’s office and, sure enough, there it was…. 8:00 a.m., Friday, August 2nd. The procedure is set for 8:30, but I am supposed to check in at the surgery center at 8:00.

It has been a very long and tiring week. I was so looking forward to sleeping late in the morning. Guess that isn’t going to happen.

I used to like being me. Lately, I’m not so sure I do anymore.

At least tomorrow is a day off work, so I can come home afterward and “pamper” myself… by cleaning house, doing the grocery shopping, laundry, and getting a haircut.

Yesterday, I overheard a conversation. I couldn’t help but overhear it, since those having it were standing right next to me.

“I’m having my midlife crisis.”
“You’re only 31 years old, and you’re having your midlife crisis?”
“Yep, I don’t want to live past 50.”

Made me feel good. This kid does not want to live to be as old as I am now.

He doesn’t even know the definition of midlife crisis. I could have told him, but I did not want to contribute to his obvious self pity. Self pity is a domain I reserve strictly for myself.
