Bored

Posted by Len on Sunday, June 23rd, 2002 at 4:35 pm CT in General

I would really like to get out and do something or go someplace. I’m bored. But I can’t get the s/o moving. He won’t even get dressed. He’s been lounging around the house butt naked all day. (Quote: “It’s my day off. I don’t have to do anything.”) Guess I’ll just cruise around the net for a while, then study a bit for the coming work week.

I did venture outside for a little while. Sure is hot. I’d like to completely redo the template for this page. I’m tired of this template. Maybe I’ll get up the energy to do that, but I doubt it. I need some motivation. Got any?

Saturday Scruples

Saturday Scruples

1. You’re starting a new restaurant. Video Lottery Terminals (VLT’s) would bring in needed cash. Do you install them?
There is a battle brewing in Texas (Southern Baptist Central) right now over video gambling machines. Once they become legal, I would definitely install them. It’s your money, and if you want to gamble it away, that’s your business. And if it adds to my business, so much the better.

2. You’re a personal trainer. You start an affair with a client who thinks the workouts now should be free. Do you insist on payment?
Since the nature of the “workouts” has now changed dramatically, no, I don’t believe I would insist on payment. (grin)

3. Your spouse would be upset if she knew you forgot the asthma kit when you took baby to the park. Do you lie to avoid a fight?
This is a scenario that is not very likely to occur, since I am well beyond my child bearing years, so I’ll pass on this question.

More bandwidth!

Posted by Len on Friday, June 21st, 2002 at 7:23 pm CT in Weblogging

I received an email from my hosting company today. In part, it said:

To kick off summer with a bang, we’re now including an extra 5 gigabytes of monthly bandwidth with all of our hosting plans! That’s right – EVERYBODY’S getting more bandwidth! We are SO not kidding.

Uh huh. Like I was using the bandwidth I already had. Now I have an extra 5 gigabytes of bandwith per month I have to use. I have to use it, right? That means I have to get a whole lot more people visiting this site. Right now, an average of 19 people per day drop in here. So, hey, you 19, go tell two friends. And if each of them tells two of their friends, and so on and so on, maybe we can use up all this bandwidth!

More layoffs

Posted by Len on Thursday, June 20th, 2002 at 7:58 pm CT in General

My former employer had another big round of layoffs today. One whole department was wiped out, and several managers and supervisors were shown the door. I should consider myself lucky that I was in the first group to go, because I at least got my severance package. Word is that severance packages may soon not be available, because the money for them just is not there. This is what happens when a big corporation cannot adjust in a changing economy. You cannot run a company now like you did during the Reagan years (or even the Clinton years).

Oh, and the rumour is true…. it’s all in the jeans.

And another one

Posted by Len on Wednesday, June 19th, 2002 at 9:25 pm CT in General

Yet another stupid suicide bomber. You know, at this point I would not blame Israel if they decided to wipe Palestine off the map. Is Palestine even on the map? I do know they really need to get rid of that old fart Arafat. If you looked in the dictionary under “ineffective leader”, you’d probably see his picture.

American Idol…. yes, Jim moves on to the final ten! I’m pretty sure it was my four votes that put him over the top. Had to be. Just saying.

Busy signal voting

Posted by Len on Wednesday, June 19th, 2002 at 7:16 am CT in General

Had to watch American Idol last night. Last night was the first night that we, the viewers, were going to get to vote on the winners. Of course, I wanted to vote for everybody Simon did not like, but I didn’t get much of a chance. Busy signals! You would think that in the internet age, Fox could come up with some way of voting other than over archaic telephone lines. After many, many redials, however, I managed to get four votes in for Jim, and one for Adriel.

C’mon, Fox, get with the times!

Work as usual

Posted by Len on Tuesday, June 18th, 2002 at 6:11 pm CT in General

I feel like I should be writing more in here, but there hasn’t really been much to write about. It’s just been work as usual. (I’ve waited several months to say that!) I’m sure things will liven up once I get more into my new job and more settled into my new routine.

Meanwhile, I’ll just keep changing the colors. :-)

Too mellow?

Posted by Len on Sunday, June 16th, 2002 at 9:20 am CT in General

I had a meeting with my new director the other day. He was concerned whether I was going to be able to handle the disciplinary aspect of my new job, take the tough road with those who require the tough road. He said I seemed too mellow, that it would take a lot to upset me.

I assured him there would be no problem.

The past six months have been an emotional roller coaster, and I’ve struggled to keep most of it inside. The death of my father in February was not easy, and the multitude of adjustments our family has had to make due to his absence have not been easy either. The long drive from here to Idaho over Memorial Day was definitely not easy, and meeting my family there for the first time since the funeral was definitely emotionally charged.

Of course, I did not tell him any of this. I just assured him that there would be no problem with me performing any of my new duties.

The mellowness I appear to exude now is just a prelude of things to come, I’m sure. When all this stuff that is now pent up inside finds its way outside, there will be fireworks. Explosions will be felt and heard around the world.

Fair warning has been given.

Good day, all in all

Posted by Len on Saturday, June 15th, 2002 at 9:03 pm CT in General

Today, I:

1) Did four loads of laundry.
2) Cleaned the bathroom. The s/o and I have an agreement. He cleans the kitty box, and I clean the bathroom. I love our cats, but I cannot clean the kitty box.
3) Washed the car (finally). I still haven’t gotten all the Kansas bugs off. There are a lot of bugs in Kansas. When you’re driving through Kansas, it sounds like you’re driving through a bad rainstorm. But it’s really just all the bugs splattering your car. All the bugs in Kansas have suicidal tendencies.
4) Completed an online test for some kind of state license I have to have for my new job. I still don’t know what that’s all about.

All in all, a good Saturday. But, since I did wash my car, rain is predicted for later tonight and tomorrow. Go figure, huh?
