I do. I truly miss David Letterman. Imagine how much fun the current presidential campaign would be if he were still doing his show. This video was recorded way back in 2012. Enjoy…

I’m kind of surprised the announcement came this early since David Letterman isn’t retiring for at least a year, but I think they made a good choice. Besides, right winger heads are exploding all over the place, and that has to be good…

Stephen Colbert to replace David Letterman on “Late Show”

CBS didn’t waste too much time finding a new host for the “Late Show.” Exactly a week after David Letterman announced his plans to retire, his successor has been named.

Stephen Colbert, the host, writer and executive producer of “The Colbert Report,” will replace Letterman in 2015.

“Stephen Colbert is one of the most inventive and respected forces on television,” CBS Chairman and CEO Les Moonves said in a statement Thursday. “David Letterman’s legacy and accomplishments are an incredible source of pride for all of us here, and today’s announcement speaks to our commitment of upholding what he established for CBS in late night.”

The 49-year-old Colbert, who signed a five-year deal, said in a statement: “Simply being a guest on David Letterman’s show has been a highlight of my career. I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps, though everyone in late night follows Dave’s lead. I’m thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth.”

Colbert’s premiere date will be revealed after Letterman figures out a timetable for his final episodes. According to CBS, “Late Show” creative elements, as well as the producers and the location for the Colbert-hosted “Late Show” will be announced at a later date.

Letterman to retire

David Letterman to retire from ‘Late Show’ in 2015

Here is his announcement from tonight’s show (which has not yet aired, but has been recorded)…

I’ve been a Letterman fan for many years. I never quite warmed to Jay Leno (too many gay jokes) and can’t quite wrap my mind around Jimmy Fallon (too juvenile, imho). Jimmy Kimmel I can usually handle, until he, too, starts acting silly. Craig Ferguson was okay until he got hooked on his genitals.

You’ll be missed, David! Luckily, we have another year together.

(I’ll usually watch Letterman, then switch over to TBS to catch Conan O’Brien.)

President Obama is David Letterman’s guest on The Late Show with David Letterman tonight (11:35 p.m. Eastern, 10:35 p.m. Central). The show, of course, was taped earlier this afternoon. CBS released this advance video, in which the President and Mr. Letterman discuss Mitt Romney’s 47% remarks.

Also, speaking of television, did you catch tonight’s episode of The New Normal? Powerful stuff. Unfortunately, probably just a little too close to reality. (If you watched it, you know which scene I am referring to.)

Did you catch President Obama on Letterman last night? It was quite a far-reaching interview, covering everything from the First Daughters to heart-shaped potatoes to the economy, health care, Iraq and Afghanistan. Here are a few minutes from the show, courtesy of Worldwide Pants…

I hope you were able to watch.

CNN reports that about fifteen extremist conservatives showed up outside the Ed Sullivan Theater yesterday afternoon during the taping of The Late Show with David Letterman to stage a “Fire David Letterman Rally.” (I wonder if My Friend Chris was there? He lives right across the river in New Jersey. Surely he was there. He’s been all about getting Letterman fired on his blog.)

Anyway, Letterman had a lot of fun with it. The topic of his top ten list was “Top Ten Things Overheard at the Fire David Letterman Rally.”

I hope CBS and the Letterman show are both sending huge bouquets of roses and real nice thank you cards to Queen Sarah and her rabid minions. They really owe her (and them) a huge debt of gratitude for this one.

And, Republicans… please don’t forget to nominate her (or at least make a big deal about her) in 2012. Please. Thank you.

P.S. Class all the way:
