Jumpstarting job growth

The President in Chattanooga, Tennessee today…

But so far, for most of this year, we’ve seen an endless parade of distractions and political posturing and phony scandals. And we keep on shifting our way — shifting our attention away from what we should be focused on, which is how do we strengthen the middle class and grow the economy for everybody. And as Washington heads towards yet another budget debate, the stakes couldn’t be higher.

And that’s why I’m visiting cities and towns like this -– to lay out my ideas for how we can build on the cornerstone of what it means to be middle class in America. A good job with good wages. A good education. A home to call your own. Affordable health care that’s there for you when you get sick. A secure retirement even if you’re not rich. More chances for folks to earn their way into the middle class as long as they’re willing to work for it. And, most importantly, the chance to pass on a better future for our kids.

Do not talk to the police

We’re big fans of the CBS show 48 Hours around here. We’ll watch nearly every episode. And during every episode, I will find myself screaming at the television “Stop talking to the police, you bleeping idiot!”

Everybody, without exception, who subjects him or herself to an interrogation by the police without a lawyer present will be convicted of whatever crime the police are investigating. No exceptions. I’ll guarantee it.

Here’s a presentation by a law school professor and former criminal defense attorney explaining why you should never, ever talk to the police. Watch it. Take it to heart. I do not care how pure and innocent you may be, do not talk to the police. You have the right to remain silent. Use it!

Just imagine the economy we could all be enjoying right now if the Republicans were not fighting this President every step of the way…

So, yes, Congress is tough right now, but that’s not going to stop me. We’re going to do everything we can, wherever we can, with or without Congress, to make things happen. We’re going to go on the road and talk to you, and you’ll have ideas, and we want to see which ones we can implement. But we’re going to focus on this thing that matters.

“Confirming Rich Cordray to Lead the CFPB”

From the White House weblog:

In this week’s address, President Obama discusses the Senate’s confirmation of Rich Cordray as Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The CFPB is an independent watchdog set up to protect families from irresponsible behavior in the financial sector – one that puts mortgage lenders, student lenders, payday lenders, and credit reporting and debt collection agencies under greater scrutiny, while providing the American people a place to get some measure of justice if they don’t play by the rules.

Texas women

Republicans across the land have made it their mission this year to restrict the rights of American women in any way they can. Today, in Texas, Rick Perry struck a big blow for them when he signed into law one of the most restrictive anti-women laws in the nation. Here, if you think you can stomach it, is Governor Grecian Formula himself gloating over his victory. Following that is a video that I think you will enjoy much, much more. If the bad governor of Texas is not quite your taste, just scroll down for something that may be.
