Gun safety legislation

President Obama held an impromptu press conference this morning to announce that he has asked Vice President Biden to head a committee that will propose gun safety legislation to be pursued by this administration. The committee’s recommendations are due by the end of next month. Here, in case you missed it, is video of the President’s remarks and the question and answer period that followed…

Another school shooting

I do not recall ever seeing the President quite this upset…

As a country, we have been through this too many times. Whether it’s an elementary school in Newtown, or a shopping mall in Oregon, or a temple in Wisconsin, or a movie theater in Aurora, or a street corner in Chicago — these neighborhoods are our neighborhoods, and these children are our children. And we’re going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics.

“Congress Must Extend the Middle Class Tax Cuts ”

In this week’s address, President Obama urged Congress to extend the middle class income tax cuts for 98% of Americans and 97% of small businesses without delay, and made clear that a balanced approach to deficit reduction means that Republicans in Congress must agree to ask the wealthiest Americans to pay higher tax rates.
