The Commission on Presidential Debates today announced the times and places for the three presidential and one vice-presidential debate to be held in October of 2012. These will, of course, feature President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden against whomever the Republicans finally settle on.

  • Wednesday, October 3 — University of Denver, Denver, CO.
  • Thursday, October 11 (Vice presidential debate) — Centre College, Danville, KY.
  • Tuesday, October 16 (Town meeting format) — Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY.
  • Monday, October 22 — Lynn University, Boca Raton, FL.

These were announced early so Rick Perry could start dreading them now, Mitt Romney can practice his flip-flops and Herman Cain can decide which song he will sing at each of the debates.

askcherlock left a comment on an earlier post in which she referred to a chilling graph she had seen that illustrates the wealth gap in the United States. It may have been one of these…

If you ask me, they are both rather chilling. We are rapidly approaching the time when there will no longer be a middle class in this country. There will be lords and peasants. We will be in the new Middle Ages. Thank you, Republicans.

“We Can’t Wait to Create Jobs”

From the White House weblog:

In this week’s address, President Obama told the American people that we can’t wait for Congress to take action to grow the economy and create jobs, and highlighted the executive actions he took this week to help families save thousands of dollars by refinancing their mortgages, put veterans to work, and lower the cost of student loans. The President continued to urge Congress to do its part and pass the American Jobs Act now, which will put more money in the pockets of middle class families, create jobs and strengthen our economy right away.

NOM misrepresentation

You have to see this to believe it. Jeremy Hooper at Good as You has discovered that the National Organization for Marriage (which campaigns exclusively against equal marriage rights) has used photographs of Obama rallies to make attendance at their own rallies appear larger. He provides two blatant examples. [Here and here.]

Given the tactics employed by this group and others like it in the past, I do not find this all that unbelievable. Still, though, it is difficult to understand how they would think they could away with something this obvious. I mean, look closely at the first photo. You can even make out candidate Obama standing at the podium.

If these people had any credibility whatsoever in the past (which I doubt they did), they most certainly do not now.

Twenty-three participants in Occupy Dallas were arrested in front of Chase Bank this morning. About 120 of the protestors had marched to the bank to encourage customers to withdraw their money and close their accounts. They were asked to leave and when they refused, they were arrested on charges of criminal trespass and excessive noise.

While I totally agree with their goals, I believe there is a better way. See previous post.

P.S. Anybody else having problems with Entrecard?

“Bringing Home Our Troops”

From the White House weblog:

In this week’s address, President Obama said that the death of Moammar Qadhafi in Libya and the announcement that troops from Iraq will return home by the end of the year are strong reminders that the United States has renewed its leadership in the world. The role of our brave pilots and crews has given the Libyan people a chance to seek a democratic future for their children, and after a decade of war in Iraq, the United States is moving forward and focusing on strengthening the economy and security at home. This is why the President is calling on Congress to pass the American Jobs Act to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure, give working families a tax break, and put teachers back in our classrooms and cops on the beat. We must bring the same sense of urgency to revitalizing our economy that our troops took to their fight, which is why President Obama is urging Republicans and Democrats to work together to pass the American Jobs Act now to put the American people back to work.
