We lost another great lady today…

Geraldine Ferraro, first woman on U.S. presidential ticket, dies

(Reuters) – Geraldine Ferraro, the Democratic congresswoman who became the first woman on a major party presidential ticket as Walter Mondale’s running mate in 1984, died on Saturday at the age of 75, her family said.

Ferraro died at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston of a blood cancer after a 12-year illness, according to a statement from her family.

“Her courage and generosity of spirit throughout her life waging battles big and small, public and personal, will never be forgotten and will be sorely missed,” the statement said.

President Barack Obama released this statement:

Michelle and I were saddened to learn about the passing of Geraldine Ferraro. Geraldine will forever be remembered as a trailblazer who broke down barriers for women, and Americans of all backgrounds and walks of life. Whether it was as a public school teacher, assistant district attorney, Member of Congress, or candidate for Vice President, Geraldine fought to uphold America’s founding ideals of equality, justice, and opportunity for all. And as our Ambassador to the UN Human Rights Commission, she stood up for those ideals around the world. Sasha and Malia will grow up in a more equal America because of the life Geraldine Ferraro chose to live. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her husband, John Zaccaro, her children and grandchildren, and their entire family.

(John Cole begs to differ. See #2 of his two quick things.)

Charlie Sheen made a surprise appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night during Jimmy’s interview with Mark Cuban. I’m beginning to believe he really is crazy — but in an entertaining sort of way. Watch…

P.S. I upgraded to Firefox 4 today. It’s different. A note to Entrecard members, though — the Entrecard toolbar is not (yet?) compatible.

WordPress users: Firefox 4 blends beautifully with WP 3.1.

This graph has been making the rounds for the past few days. I just had to post it in case you have somehow missed it…

ThisIsNotWhatDemocracyLooksLike.jpg

So… Which slice of the pie is your slice of the pie coming from?

The next time you hear some Tea Partier or Republican talking about “redistribution of wealth” or how school teachers or union workers are making too much money, I want you to think about this chart. Then ask them which slice of the pie is their slice of the pie coming from.

You have probably seen the video of young Casey Heynes fighting back against the kid who was bullying him. It was even featured on NBC’s Nightly News last evening. Here is a follow-up interview with Casey and his parents and friends. It really is fascinating and worth the time to watch…

You go, Casey. I wish I had had your courage when I was your age.

UPDATE: The young bully in the video, Richard Gale, tells his side of story. He claims he was hit first…

P.S. If you have not seen the original video, it is available following the break.
