I just had the CBS Evening News on in the background (kind of listening, not watching). I’ve grown a bit weary of NBC’s Brian Williams lately and I absolutely refuse to watch the screaming heads on cable. That leaves Diane Sawyer and somehow, to me, she still belongs on the early morning chat shows. I continue to find it difficult to take her seriously as a network news anchor. So back to CBS and Katie Couric.

Somehow, the Palin family continues to be considered news. Katie just mentioned that daughter Bristol, the unwed teen mother who became so infamous during the 2008 presidential campaign, is now pulling in between $15,000 and $30,000 per appearance to speak to people about (of all things) teen abstinence. I could not believe what I was hearing. Has our country really sunk so low? Seems it has…

Bristol Palin gets $15,000 to $30,000 in speaking fees

Opportunity knocks when you are America’s best-known teenage mom, and Bristol Palin has signed on with Single Source Speakers to give lectures at $15,000 to $30,000 a pop, more lucrative than her current job at an Anchorage doctor’s office.

The daughter is commanding less on the speech making circuit than mom Sarah Palin. The dropout Alaska governor reportedly gets $100,000 plus business or first class plane tickets for herself and “First Dude.”

It really is a mad, mad world, isn’t it?
