NEW ORLEANS – A conservative filmmaker whose undercover videos shone a spotlight on alleged corruption by the liberal activist group ACORN was arrested with three other men and accused of plotting to wiretap the New Orleans offices of Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La.

The FBI said in an affidavit that James O’Keefe was among the four men who were arrested Monday. Special Agent Steven Rayes said O’Keefe was helping two others, Joseph Basel and Robert Flanagan, who were dressed as employees of a telephone company and attempted to interfere with the office’s telephone system.

Flanagan is the son of William J. Flanagan, the acting U.S. attorney for western Louisiana. William Flanagan’s office confirmed his son was among those arrested, but declined further comment.

The fourth man was identified as Stan Dai. All four were charged with entering federal property under false pretenses with the intent of committing a felony.

UPDATE: From The Washington Post… “Conservatives react to charges against ACORN foe.”

Conservative supporters of O’Keefe claim he and two others entered Landrieu’s office in an effort to conduct another undercover video sting — to show on video that citizens trying to call the senator’s phones to complain could not get through.

  1. I’m anxious to hear more about this. I hope the success from the ACORN uncover hasn’t made this kid think he’s invincible.

  2. Don’t you think this kind of calls “the success from the ACORN uncover” into question? This guy’s credibility is shot. What’s really scary is that 31 House Republicans backed a resolution honoring young Mr. O’Keefe.

He was out to make a name for himself. I think he succeeded.

  3. Please post some update on this. waiting for more to read.

  4. I hope he goes to the pen for years, and find out what a real pimp is all about. And how they dressed in 2009! What a fool!

  5. Sounds more like plumbers than Replumbicans. You think they were reenacting great moments from the Nixonian past? Sounds like the White House press whores got bored and went looking for work.

  6. More information can be found on the Press page of the New Orleans FBI

Press page of the New Orleans FBI

    It states

If convicted, FLANAGAN, BASEL, O’KEEFE, and DAI each face a maximum term of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

As a final comment, I would encourage political bloggers to subscribe to press releases from the FBI and DoJ. They are making great efforts in making information more available.

  7. Yes it does indeed put into question the information he “supposedly” obtained. Conservatives arent’ suppose to break the law are they? They are religious, law abiding folks…..yes?
